Result

Mumbai Indians made it five wins in a row without even breaking sweat, thanks to a first innings total of just 216 and Digvesh Rathi’s fine bowling performance – taking three wickets in two overs!

A relatively meek first innings total of just 216 meant it wasn’t going to be close contest!

At the end of it all, however, it was MI’s bowlers who proved victorious as they collected vital wickets that helped ensure no chance of victory for the away team.

Jasprit Bumrah’s return to form today helped take care of Rathi and Samad wickets before Trent Boult sealed MI’s victory with three wickets of his own.

MI were eager to put on an outstanding performance for 19,000 children at this game and Suryakumar Yadav, winner of Orange Cap in their previous match, was at his unstoppable best with 28-ball 54 that helped MI reach 215-5.

Aiden Markram made an unimpressive start for LSG but eventually recovered and assisted Nicholas Pooran in amassing an admirable total; unfortunately however, poor death bowling cost them in their run chase attempt.

LSG lose their first wicket of the match when Ryan Rickelton strikes an impressive six off Avesh Khan with a powerful stroke. Khan pitched slow and wide on leg; Rickelton used this advantage to smash it over the midwicket fence.

He then hit another boundary off Prince Yadav’s next delivery to reach 50 in just 25 balls!

Rishabh Pant made an incorrect claim to LBW off of the same bowler and made an appeal; however, the on-field umpire denied him not out. To overturn their decision he used DRS but eventually had it overruled when the ball landed on his pads.

But LSG were to be undone by another of Karn’s bowlers in the 17th over, this time getting rid of Nicholas Pooran when his reverse sweep misfired to short third.

That ended a good partnership between Pooran and Ayush Badoni who looked set for half-centuries before being caught off long off.

Match Highlights

MI have made a remarkable turnaround after losing four of their initial five matches, becoming an elite side with Rohit’s return to form, Boult bowling with disciplined pace and Jasprit Bumrah showing glimpses of what once made him great.

LSG have had an inconsistent start to their season and recent struggles are an indicator of their issues. Their top order hasn’t performed as promised – with Marsh, Pooran and Rishabh Pant failing to impress – while their middle order appears vulnerable.

Starting their innings strongly, MI struggled as their batsmen found it hard to establish themselves. Ayush Badoni quickly fell prey to Rohit’s bowling before Pooran also fell prey as Jacks eventually dismissed him for 191 runs before Marsh was caught at cover off Bumrah and MI continued picking wickets regularly as Ryan Rickelton, Suryakumar Yadav, Naman Dhir and Bosch all played key cameo roles with all-round performances from Bosch helping move them up the table – moving them from 11th place down to second position overall in the table! With this win MI moved up one place ahead in terms of overall league standings table!

Prediction

Ryan Rickelton attempts another big hit off Mayank Yadav but the ball goes straight into Aush Badoni at extra cover and MI continue their dominance of this match by taking another wicket for 58 runs.

SKY continues to whack boundaries as he and Suryakumar Yadav take control of the match from LSG with excellent batting. In the previous over of Prince Yadav’s bowling, this duo scored 16 runs including two sixes from SKY as well as one boundary from Suryakumar Yadav.

LSG are having trouble forging a strong partnership, though Nicholas Pooran has done his best recently to stop the erosion.

MI have found their stride under Hardik Pandya’s guidance and are in contention for a place amongst the top four of the league table.

MI will host LSG, who have only managed two wins out of their past three matches. Without finding some form of middle order solution they will struggle to compete against MI’s formidable attack.

Digvesh Rathi may cause LSG some cause for concern with his ineffective bowling against MI batsmen on a consistent basis, while Avesh Khan has excelled during death overs and can play an essential role in this match-up for LSG.

Rohit Sharma has been on top form recently and will look to add to his impressive total in this game. Ryan Rickelton has also shown promise this season and it would be wise for LSG batters to play aggressively early so as to post a respectable total that Mumbai Indians could chase down later.

Obviously MI are expected to maintain their perfect home record as they come into this one as favorites to take down this one easily.
