ODI

At stake in Ahmedabad is an intense T20 World Cup Group D matchup pitting New Zealand against South Africa with perfect records in this tournament, and top two status will depend on which side prevails here. Expect both explosive batting and sharp bowling in an explosive encounter!

New Zealand make an impressive start in their pursuit of 171 with Daryl Mitchell and Mark Chapman sharing an unbroken partnership of 96 in nine overs, taking 14 from Corbin Bosch’s over, with Mitchell picking a slower ball exquisitely to drive over mid-off for four before slapping another square for four more runs.

Rabada has returned strong, restricting runs with his deft changes of pace and shaping slower balls away from Finn Allen who can’t resist an expansive drive that hits him on the pad, only for Brevis to dive forward brilliantly to complete an outstanding catch.

Lockie Ferguson falls next, with South Africa continuing their march towards their target. A quick short ball pitched around off stump finds Quinton de Kock unable to connect properly and his miscued pull lands at long-on where Mitchell makes no error in taking an exceptional self-relay catch.

New Zealand’s run chase has been temporarily derailed by an early wickets in the middle overs, but Mitchell and Chapman regained some momentum as Mitchell hit four consecutive sixes off Ngidi’s second over to get closer to half century mark.

South Africa have taken control in the death overs, and with some smart plays have broken through Tim Seifert’s top order.

An off stump short ball nudges past Tim Seifert, and on its follow through it goes straight to deep midwicket without being collected by Seifert on his follow through. A little full delivery from David Miller then seals this triumphant win for South Africa with an emphatic six.

T20I

New Zealand and South Africa have both gone unbeaten so far in the T20 World Cup so far, and this match at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad could go a long way to deciding the winner of Group D.

Both teams share similar styles, while recent games at this venue have produced big totals with aggressive batting and quick bowling expected for an entertaining contest. Expect aggressive batting from both sides in this high-octane contest!

The Black Caps started well, hitting two back-to-back boundaries off Lungi Ngidi’s first over and scoring back-to-back boundaries off his second. Unfortunately, against Proteas bowler Vernon Philander’s disciplined bowling attack they struggled to gain any momentum;

Ngidi’s probing first over produced only seven runs; before an extended spell of poor cricket from them with top order collapse and batting weakness becoming obvious.

But Ngidi was quickly replaced by Corbin Bosch, and immediately tightened things up. Finn Allen hit fours off an outside edge that raced away for four runs off Corbin Bosch; another top-edged pull sailed over long-on but the Proteas kept their control intact and restricted New Zealand to 33-1 after just 3.1 overs.

Mitchell Santner and Daryl Mitchell provided some relief in the next over with some powerful hits off it from Mitchell Santner and Daryl Mitchell, but soon lost momentum with their final-wicket pair:

Mark Chapman was out for a duck off his first ball of the sixth over and Quinton de Kock was bowled soon thereafter by Lockie Ferguson with an offbreak legcutter from Lockie Ferguson – leaving only James Neesham as their sole viable batsman scoring decent scores; unfortunately at 175/7 on an offbeat pitch their target may prove beyond reach

T20 Internationals may be new for these teams, but their histories run deep. New Zealand and South Africa have played each other 17 times across formats with New Zealand prevailing 11 times and South Africa 6; each side coming off of impressive home seasons – New Zealand finished top of ODI table while South Africa were second. Both have good chances at making it through to Ahmedabad’s Super 8s should they win this game and other results go their way in this game.

Test

On Wednesday at the Wanderers Stadium in Johannesburg, South Africa won the toss and elected to bat first. Sarel Erwee and Glenton Stuurman made their Springbok debuts during this high-scoring match which featured over 200 runs scored between both sides.

New Zealand’s top order had early difficulties, but recovered to reach 213/6 before falling away at the death overs.

While South Africa looked poised for victory, New Zealand kept fighting and managed to take some important wickets late on in order to clinch an unlikely win against them – winning three of their previous five Tests against South African sides since 2000!

But the hosts were unable to capitalise on this lead and soon fell under pressure. While they managed to keep scoring runs throughout, Kagiso Rabada made some smart changes of pace that saw James Neesham miss a full length delivery and hit it out of bounds instead.

Mark Chapman and Daryl Mitchell steadied the ship, relieving pressure with some precise cricket. By half time they had moved to 92/4; Chapman capitalizing when Brevis missed a difficult chance near the ropes. Unfortunately for them however they still found themselves short of batsmen so had to fight hard for every run scored.

New Zealand added another four runs in the final over. Neesham hit two legcutter boundaries before lobbing one slower legcutter to long-on. Daryl Mitchell grabbed it from under his foot, spun round, and held out an amazing self-relay catch!

South Africa’s chase began slowly, reaching 100/3 after 15 overs. But South African openers soon found their groove, playing brilliant shots to rotate strike and ease pressure off their players.

Aiden Markram then came through, hitting four sixes in an over to move to 76 off 52 balls; David Miller soon followed suit by adding another six, closing the gap to 27 runs and helping South Africa take victory with ease.

Tri-Series

South Africa have taken three victories from four matches at this tournament so far, but will face a stiff test when they meet unbeaten New Zealand in their final group match played under lights in Ahmedabad this Saturday evening. Both teams are tied at six points; therefore the winner of this game will become the first one to secure entry to the Super 8 stage.

The Black Caps will look to rebound after suffering early setbacks against South Africa in this high-stakes matchup against Proteas – who possess an unblemished record themselves – but should expect a fierce opponent from Proteas who’ll go all out for victory to reach top eight status.

New Zealand holds the edge in head-to-head matches between these nations in this fixture with 17 victories compared to South Africa’s 10. However, South Africa have won their last three encounters under this format.

Aiden Markram’s career-best 86 off 44 balls propelled South Africa to victory against New Zealand in their inaugural T20 World Cup night match and ensured their place in the quarter finals. South Africa took control by opting to field, restricting New Zealand to 175/7 after 20 overs.

New Zealand batsmen have struggled to get off on an extremely fast pitch, but have been given assistance by some outstanding fielding from South African bowlers.

Jacob Duffy has been particularly impressive, producing extra bounce with his short ball while using it effectively to take five wickets so far and lead their side’s tournament wicket-taking.

Dewald Brevis gets his four with an exquisite cut over long-on. However, his next attempt was more disappointing as it sailed straight back towards midwicket. Kagiso Rabada responded well, trapping Tim Seifert at square leg before forcing an edge through to Quinton de Kock for six runs off an over.

James Neesham gave New Zealand some impetus in their final over, hitting four off full toss, then striking a slower legcutter straight down as Corbin Bosch failed to bowl his yorker – contributing 10 runs off that over as New Zealand moved closer towards reaching their target.
