Australia vs. West Indies

Top-ranked women’s teams compete against one another in three high-intensity T20Is and three fiercely competitive ODIs for supremacy.

It’s an epic showdown between global dominance and Caribbean charm that determines qualification for the 2029 ICC Women’s World Cup final stage of qualification.

Cameron Green and Mitch Owen have combined to forge a brilliant 80-run stand that powered Australia to victory against West Indies in their inaugural T20I at Sabina Park, Sydney. After making an early breakthrough, wickets fell steadily during West Indies’ chase attempt before Australia sealed victory by three wickets.

Australia and West Indies’ tour does not feature a Test match this time around; with hosts Australia opting instead to prioritize white-ball cricket ahead of the T20 World Cup later in 2018. 1st Test

Australia are hoping to start their season off right by taking out a Test series against West Indies and winning their Frank Worrell Trophy, second only to Ashes contested by these teams.

Sean Abbott was called up as an emergency replacement for injured Brendan Doggett following his hip injury sustained during Australia’s World Cup final loss against South Africa.

Marnus Labuschagne and Steven Smith are currently unavailable due to injury, though both were included in Australia’s T20I squad for their tour of India. Both will return for the three-Test series against St Vincent which will also mark the debut of young wicketkeeper-batsman Shai Hope who earned inclusion due to his impressive white-ball performances against Ireland and England this summer.

3rd Test

Australia claimed an unassailable 2-0 advantage in the series with victories at Grenada and Bridgetown, holding onto their Frank Worrell Trophy for over 30 years without suffering defeat against Windies opponents in any series battle since its debut.

West Indies looked to make an effective start in their inaugural day-night Test at Sabina Park but collapsed under pressure in their second innings. Kevlon Anderson made just three runs during his 100th Test appearance before being bowled by Mitchell Starc on his 100th appearance.

Brandon King was also dismissed with a half-century, marking his inaugural innings under the new format. Unfortunately for them though, their batting collapsed on an unforgiving surface that soon turned against them; thus leading Australia to victory by an overwhelming 177 run margin; Pat Cummins received the man of the match award with four wickets taken during this match.

4th Test

The inaugural Test was an eventful encounter. Shane Warne made a match-winning 81 to reduce Clive Lloyd’s West Indians to 177-5 before Matthew Hayden and Justin Langer united for a 247-run stand that brought Australia within three runs of 317; Larry Gomes batted an innings of 147 that forced Australia’s victory target up to 418; in addition, this match will long be remembered by Australian captain Steve Waugh’s feud with Curtly Ambrose on the field!

5th Test

Commerce in Melbourne nearly came to a halt as West Indies received a warm send off worthy of royalty. Australia players made sure they acknowledged their visiting counterparts, while the crowd applauded ardently when they took to the field on Day 3.

Debutants CC McDonald and GR Thoms both made impressive debuts, while West Indies lost both Gibbs and Davidson early; by day’s end they had dropped to 179-7 with just two wickets falling during play; both RC Hunte and RB Kanhai made great contributions throughout.

6th Test

Australia bowled West Indies out for 27 runs — their lowest total since New Zealand were all out for 47 in 1955 — during day-night Test at Sabina Park on Day 3.

Kevlon Anderson and Shamar Joseph made their Test debuts as Australia won by 176 runs to complete a series clean sweep and claim an easy 176 run win; injured pace bowler Matt Doggett was replaced with Nathan Abbott for final match due to injury.

CWI announces 2025 Home Schedule, featuring three-Test series against Australia and white-ball tours to Ireland and England.

7th Test

In one of the most dramatic Test series ever played, a dominant Australian squad near or at their peak outwitted an inexperienced West Indies outfit. Viv Richards and Gordon Greenidge scored brilliant centuries while Brian Lara made an unbeaten 277 at Sabina Park in Kingston. The series ended after this win by Australia.

On the fifth day at Port of Spain, crowd rioting halted play with one WI wicket left, ultimately giving Australia a consolation win on Christmas Day and returning the Frank Worrell Trophy back to the Caribbean for the first time since 1955.

Australia’s bowlers led by McGrath and Reiffel performed brilliantly but batsmen made costly errors that turned it into a one-sided contest, leading to Adelaide becoming an exciting climax where Mark Taylor’s 10-wicket haul helped secure an innings victory for Australia.

8th Test

As Australia dominated Australia’s early overs with their bowling, local hero Merv Hughes removed three West Indian batsmen before Lara and Keith Arthurton responded with a fine 100-run partnership – Lara scoring his maiden double century and Arthurton his maiden half century in Test cricket respectively.

Mitchell Starc had earlier dismissed the Windies for 27 runs – their lowest total ever in an Test match and thus sealing a 3-0 series win against them. Their loss sent them sliding to ninth position on Test rankings since debuting back in 1975.

Due to these circumstances, the tour schedule has been altered with the Windies playing three T20 internationals and three one-day internationals instead of their original itinerary which also included one Test match. Instead, Caribbean will now prioritise white ball cricket ahead of this year’s T20 World Cup and two Tests and five ODIs between them will take place again in 2025.
