India win by 17 runs
The India men’s national cricket team, also referred to as the India Blue or Men in Blue, represents India in international men’s cricket competition. It is overseen by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and boasts Test, One Day International (ODI), and Twenty20 International (T20I) membership status with International Cricket Council.
Historically India have been dominant Test teams at home since 1987 – only four full series defeats ever taking place prior to 1996! During that decade spinners like Ravichandran Ashwin and Anil Kumble helped secure that reputation; making Indian domestic spinners and batted like tanks!
India truly emerged as a cricket power in the second half of this century under captains such as Sunil Gavaskar, Sourav Ganguly and Rahul Dravid as superpowers backed by fast bowlers such as Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Shami.
Although they suffered defeat against Sri Lanka at the 1996 Cricket World Cup semi-final stage, India went on to establish itself as an immensely potent Test side.
India proved equally formidable on home ground in One Day Internationals (ODI), with Sachin Tendulkar and Kapil Dev establishing themselves as premier batsmen – Dev’s record ODI batting score is 332; Tendulkar currently holds the highest single ODI record ever for an Indian.
India rose to become one of the finest teams on the world scene during the late 20th century thanks to Mahendra Singh Dhoni and Virat Kohli’s leadership as both Test and ODI cricket players, respectively. Kohli particularly proved himself outstanding, winning many matches and trophies for India along the way.
India has experienced some recent struggles, with Pakistan emerging as an unexpected challenger to their dominance of one-day international cricket (ODI).
With Kohli at the helm and new talent emerging within their ranks, however, India are confident of returning to former glory; that looks likely at next year’s ICC Cricket World Cup tournament in Australia and New Zealand.
Netherlands 176/7
The Netherlands is an island nation in southern Europe that is home to over 17 million people. Their culture includes an extensive tradition of playing cricket dating back to 1817 between Holland and England in their first recorded match-up. Now part of the International Cricket Council and competing in ODIs, T20s, and 50-over tournaments – the Dutch have always taken great pride in playing this beautiful sport!
The Netherlands national cricket team boasts an abundance of talent and an outstanding organization. Over its history of competing in International Cricket Council tournaments – such as World Cup and T20 World Cup competition – they have won more trophies than any other European team, not to mention T20 Blast and Super League success. Many Dutch cricketers have also become stars at English county cricket or New Zealand T20 franchise leagues.
At Lord’s, Netherlands fell to India by 17 runs in an exciting match ICC Cricket World Cup Qualifier 2023. Co-hosts India won the toss and elected to bat first, dominating middle overs batting with ease to amass an impressive total of 193-6 runs before captain Logan Van Beek finished with figures of 3-56.
India was one of the top performers in Group Stage cricket, thanks to an exceptional batting and bowling display. Shreyas Iyer and KL Rahul both scored hundreds to help India post an impressive total of 410/4; furthermore, almost every batter contributed.
Netherlands batsmen struggled in the opening stages, with Tilak Varma caught off a diving catch by Roelof van der Merwe. Ishan Kishan scored 18 off 7 balls quickly before Suryakumar Yadav provided steady innings that set a strong foundation for India.
Once Dube came on and played his extraordinary innings of 66 off 31 balls which featured four fours and six sixes helped India achieve an enormous total – Hardik Pandya contributed an additional quickfire 30 overs in death overs to complete victory.
India 193/8
The match, played at Lord’s in front of a capacity crowd, marked India’s inaugural World Cup final appearance and first limited-overs game to be hosted there since England defeated Australia with over 10 overs to spare in 1983.
India lost the toss and were asked to bat against a West Indies side that boasted some of the finest bowlers at that time, in particular Sunil Gavaskar who was dismissed after just two runs, Krishnamachari Srikkanth was out lbw to Marshall and Mohinder Amarnath was caught off Holding. India struggled past 50 but thanks to Shivam Dube who hit six powerful shots through the arc on his way to scoring his half century off 66 balls allowed them to reach 183 in 54.4 overs.
Kapil Dev’s side were under immense pressure to defend the low total, but their batting line-up mostly stood up to it. Virender Sehwag and Sourav Ganguly both scored half centuries – only late drops prevented a higher total from being achieved.
After the match, Kapil Dev told his players it was an incredible opportunity for India to win the World Cup – and they certainly proved it by defeating Netherlands in Group stage and setting up an encounter between themselves and South Africa for a spot in Super Eights. Their win completed a perfect run for hosts India while providing momentum going into later matches of tournament.
Netherlands 194/8
India easily won the opening match of their three-match series against Netherlands by dominating them to secure an easy victory. Rohit Sharma and company bowled brilliantly to restrict Netherlands to just 194/8; their lack of batting depth was particularly concerning; Ryan Ten Doeschate made 100 not enough to offset this catastrophic collapse that cost them the match.
The men’s national cricket team of the Netherlands, known as “The Flying Dutchmen”, represents its country internationally in men’s international cricket.
Administered by the Royal Dutch Cricket Association and recognised by the International Cricket Council with Test, One Day International (ODI), and Twenty20 International (T20I) status.
Traditional Dutch athletes excelled at field hockey and soccer, but also established an excellent cricketing nation. Their first national association was founded in 1890; by 1966 they achieved Associate Membership of the ICC; today there are approximately 6,000 cricketers living in the Netherlands.
Although cricket may not be as prevalent in the Netherlands as football or field hockey, it remains an enjoyable public pastime. Club cricket in Rotterdam, Groningen and Maastricht remains popular. Other top Dutch teams such as Roland Lefebvre and Ryan Ten Doeschate who represent Somerset & Glamorgan respectively in English county cricket also remain competitive internationally.
The Dutch have played over 250 ODI matches since 1987 and scored over 6,500 runs while taking 377 wickets – ranking 8th globally and winning more ODIs than any team.
Their impressive record in limited-overs cricket includes winning two world cups under Mahendra Singh Dhoni (India) in the context of the India National Cricket Team Vs Netherlands National Cricket Team Match Scorecard. Their success in shorter forms of cricket has inspired other nations to develop national sides.
