India vs Australia
The Indian women’s national cricket team represents India on an international cricket stage. Administered by the Board of Control for Cricket in India and full members of the International Cricket Council with Test, One Day International (ODI), and Twenty20 International (T20I) status. Their rich tradition spans decades; having won various major ICC competitions like World Cup T20 World Cup Champions Trophy over their history coached by Ramesh Powar.
Indian-Australian rivalry in cricket is legendary, featuring some of the biggest matches ever witnessed in its history. Over 304 encounters between different formats of play between Australia and India have taken place;
Australia leads overall with 246 wins versus 162 losses while both nations have participated in five World Cups with Australia winning four and India three victories each; most recently their last meeting occurred at 2023 ODI World Cup at DY Patil Stadium, Navi Mumbai where India surprised Australia by pulling off an amazing record chase that had won them their clash against each other!
Phoebe Litchfield’s 119 set the scene for Australia’s 338 total at the DY Patil Stadium and after she batted unbeaten for 127 in an unbeaten knock, Rodrigues led with her best innings ever and earned herself player of the match award with her unfaltering performance. It marked Rodrigues’ seventh successive ODI century which won her this award.
With their run rate rising and India needing to score runs quickly to remain in contention for a semi-final spot, India needed a big innings from Harmanpreet’s late blitz to stay competitive – although their bowlers started well too – but with an eight over target and Perry and Gardner sitting between wickets it soon became evident that India were struggling.
1st ODI
An One Day International (ODI) is a limited-overs match played between two teams of 11 players each, using an over limit of 50 and an innings duration that can last up to nine hours. ODIs are considered the highest form of limited-overs cricket; their first occurrence being played on 5 January 1971 at Melbourne Cricket Ground.
The One Day International (ODI) format is also widely employed in tri-nations series, in which three teams compete against one another to win the trophy. Matches usually take place across various venues within a host country. Similar to Twenty20 International (T20I), however, with no fixed number of overs as in ODI cricket.
Beth Mooney and Ellyse Perry were unflappable as Australia put on a frenetic run chase to beat India at Rose Bowl. They struck an array of boundaries before reaching 215 with more than an over to spare; their performance ensured Australia topped their group and will meet West Indies in the semi-finals.
Australia have twice in a row posted an impressive total against India in an ODI, the previous instance being 173 against them at Mumbai DYP in 2022. Lord’s has provided Australia’s greatest chase on Lord’s surface ever and second only behind Delhi T20 World Cup when it comes to scoring runs against them.
Indian players were left stunned as Australia delivered a powerful performance that left India stunned and all but ended their hopes of reaching an ODI final for the first time ever. Harmanpreet Kaur came close to saving them with her late blitz but ultimately it wasn’t enough to deny Australia victory and end their hopes for their maiden title win.
2nd ODI
Australia captain Alyssa Healy lauded both her batting efforts and bowlers’ outstanding work at restricting India, leading them to take an impressive lead 6-4 with one match left in this series.
Axar Patel produced an exceptional all-round display while Washington Sundar and Shubman Gill batted effectively. Unfortunately, skipper Gill suffered an injury when trying to complete a run during the 42nd over – Healy will hope this is not serious and plans on having him back for Sophia Gardens at Sophia Gardens for their series decider on October 10.
Harmanpreet Kaur and Rodrigues’ partnership of 91 runs was key in providing India with momentum during their chase of 322 runs, especially after Kaur hit Georgia Voll for a six in the 31st over before hitting an off-side shot to extend her innings further with sixes off two subsequent balls.
India were struggling to sustain their tempo when Rodrigues holed out to long on off Healy in the 35th over – at 217 for 4 at that point – prompting Healy to up her scoring with 51 balls on offer – scoring an astounding 92 off 51 deliveries with clinical strokeplay.
Healy was eventually dismissed by Renuka Singh off the second ball of the final over, falling just shy of a brilliant half-century. Her blistering 102 off just 67 balls set an Australian ODI single-score record and included four sixes and an outstanding straight drive off Bumrah as well as another straight four off Curran; her only misstep came when she missed a run-out chance against Gurnoor Brar on the final ball of this over.
3rd ODI
Ellyse Perry and Ash Gardner of Australia showed incredible aggression in an unprecedented world record chase against India, ending their hopes of making the semi-finals. It marked Australia’s fifth time exceeding 150 total in Women’s T20 International cricket history – but their first since World Cup 2015.
Lord’s witnessed their highest total against India to date and an epic chase on a pitch that favoured bowlers despite Harmanpreet Kaur’s late surge, but India could only manage 166-8 after 20 overs and were left way behind the pace of scoring at Lord’s.
ODI (One Day Internationals) are limited overs games played between teams of 11 players each. The team that wins the toss decides whether or not to bat first and each side bats for an set number of overs (originally between 40-60, but since mid-1990 it has been standardised at 50 overs). The match generally lasts from seven hours long with each side batting for their set period before changing overs in turn.
Since the 1980s, One Day Internationals (ODIs) have been part of cricket. Over this time period, more countries participated in this competition, prompting the International Cricket Council (ICC) to establish its administration system for it.
Lord’s is hosting the final One-Day International of England’s series with India, and with Rohit Sharma’s uncertain future dominating news coverage, speculation that it could be his last appearance is sure to make headlines. With Cardiff having been marred by rain-rule farces, series decider is expected to draw large crowds; yet its relevance should not be increased by all this uncertainty; its standalone product stands up as well.

Jemimah Rodrigues’ unbeaten century proved enough to secure India a memorable semi-final win against Australia, following her previous dip into obscurity when dropped for two ducks early on in the tournament. Her comeback has given India hope that another name can grace their World Cup trophy.
Early on in the match, Australia posted 339 as they responded. That seemed an intimidating total to defend but left-handers Rodrigues and Harmanpreet Kaur did their work, with Harmanpreet taking advantage of two dropped catches from Tahlia McGrath by taking three wickets herself.
Healy wasn’t at her best, but the other three batsmen held strong to put Australia in a dominant position. India, however, presented their challenge from another angle and Amanjot Kaur was instrumental in scoring a crucial run against Australia to give India victory at Navi Mumbai.
Australia was struggling to get their bowlers onto the ball. Ash Gardner responded brilliantly by reaching 50 off 29 balls – and added two further boundaries before Australia found themselves looking strong.
Shree Charani’s first over is full of drama as she concedes two fours before giving away no balls from the next over, before Ellyse Perry sent one into the stands for six, taking one step closer to victory with each stroke she hits into it.
Cricket Australia used the term ‘Southern Stars’ until their final match of 2017, after which it removed gender-specific nicknames and officially referred to all national teams simply as the Australians. This evolution reflects the organization’s commitment to equality and modern branding.
