ODIs

West Indies will look to maintain their winning streak against Bangladesh after defeating Pakistan in their previous ODI. Ackeem Auguste earned his maiden call-up into ODI squad as Evin Lewis is injured, with Khary Pierre and Alick Athanaze also returning as spin options to bolster West Indies’ arsenal.

Shai Hope took charge and led his Windies side to 213-7 and set up a super over. Although the wicket provided decent turn, tourists struggled to find gaps in their batsman’s shots.

Bangladesh won the match thanks to a six from Rishad Hussain in the super over, taking them home by one wicket and sealing victory for them in an ODI series concluding Thursday at Dhaka.

Mahidul Islam Ankon made his ODI debut while Ackeem Auguste and Khary Pierre returned for their second outing at this ground; Keacy Carty and Gudakesh Motie have been left out, replaced with Ramon Simmonds and Amir Jangoo in their place in this 15-man roster.

T20Is

West Indies have won nine out of 19 matches while Bangladesh have prevailed eight. One match ended up as a draw.

Bangladesh won their opening ODI by an emphatic margin. Litton Das led from the front by scoring a brilliant hundred and picking up four wickets; Soumya and Mahidul Islam Ankon made their ODI debuts for Bangladesh; Ackeem Auguste also proved worthy of Sammy’s faith with some brilliant shots from Ackeem Auguste.

Tests

Shakib Al Hasan scored an exceptional first innings 185 to give Bangladesh an early first-innings lead and be named man-of-the-match in their Test series against West Indies cricket team, and later awarded man-of-the-match honours.

Although their second Test resulted in a rain-curtailed draw, Bangladesh still won their series victory and took home all four victories outside home since 21 years prior.

Bangladesh hosted its inaugural tri-nation ODI tournament in Chittagong in January 2018 and won all three group games to reach the finals. They scored the highest total ever scored in an ODI history against Sri Lanka while also bowling them out with record low scores – but unfortunately lost to Pakistan and ended as runners-ups.

Bangladesh then traveled to New Zealand for one Test and three ODIs, drawing 1-1 with both series, but losing both ODIs. Mashrafe Mortaza became the first Bangladesh player since Enamul Haque Jr. to score 500 runs in an innings while also taking seven wickets – an unprecedented performance by any Bangladesh player since his time playing cricket for Bangladesh in India.

During this tour he also became the first player ever to surpass 500 runs during an innings and take seven wickets during any test match (also an unprecedented performance by any Bangladesh player since Enamul Haque Jr’s seven wickets during ODI).

Bangladesh then faced off against India and South Africa in limited-overs series, both dominated by batsmen as neither team managed a clean sweep in either format. But Bangladesh were eventually victorious; winning their first ODI series outside their own nation since 2009.

Liton Das produced an unbeaten 103 in the second of these matches to lead Bangladesh to victory by 123 runs and complete their first whitewash since 2009.

Liton’s impressive performances earned him selection for the six-match T20I series against West Indies that kicked off on 12 October 2025.

Other members of his squad for this tournament included Mustafizur Rahman, Soumya Sarkar, Saif Hassan, Najmul Hossain Shanto Afif Hossain Taskin Ahmed Mahidul Islam Bhuiyan.

Bangladesh and West Indies will play six one-day internationals (ODIs). One will take place in Dhaka and five in Chittagong; starting with Shere Bangla National Stadium hosting game one on March 11, the last ODI will take place there on March 15.

Series

Bangladesh and West Indies cricket teams have long had an intense rivalry, contesting intense high-scoring matches to determine world supremacy. Their contrasting styles are best highlighted by players such as Shakib Al Hasan of Bangladesh and Tamim Iqbal for West Indies; Chris Gayle, Kieron Pollard and Dwayne Bravo of West Indies respectively.

As each side adapts their tactics over time – Bangladesh adopting aggressive fielding and spin variations while West Indies lean heavily on experienced batsmen with powerful fast bowlers – their rivalry remains.

Bangladesh and West Indies first faced each other for a match in Dhaka in August 2008. Although both teams failed to reach the required total, this game marked the beginning of an intense rivalry that has since seen multiple matches played between both nations in various formats.

Bangladesh played host to West Indies for three ODI matches and two Test matches between 2022-2024, winning all three ODI games while losing both Test matches; teams split series evenly after that; second Test due to rain was awarded a draw result.

Though Bangladesh had struggled in ODIs, their performance in Test series was outstanding. Bangladesh won both tests by an innings and run margin.

Following the series, Bangladeshi cricket board responded to coronavirus concerns by mandating one ticket per person for the opening ODI. This decision allowed fans to watch in comfort and avoid overcrowded stadiums.

Bangladeshi cricketers have been working tirelessly on both batting and bowling skills in preparation for upcoming ODIs, hoping that they can put in an impressive showing in these matches.

Although Liton Das’s form in recent ODIs may have been less than impressive, he has done very well in T20Is. Nurul Hasan, Jaker Ali Anik, Shamim Hossain have all been left off of this series while Tanzim Hasan Sakib and Hasan Mahmud due to injury issues respectively.
