Chidambaram Stadium; owned by a consortium headed by N Srinivasan; most successful IPL team ever with five championship wins; considered most popular Indian sports team with millions of followers across India and abroad.

Furthermore, their social media following reaches over 4 million on Facebook and Twitter alone! Merchandise produced by this club include some of the most iconic cricket apparel seen across India.
MS Dhoni has been an indispensable player for Chennai Super Kings this season. As captain in Ruturaj Gaikwad’s absence due to injury, Dhoni led them to victory against Lucknow Super Giants earlier this week and will hope to keep up the momentum against MI.
Dhoni led his bowling unit well this year – Afghan spinner Noor Ahmed and Indian pacer Khaleel Ahmad both taking numerous wickets this year for MI.
CSK became embroiled in the IPL’s numerous scandals, such as spot-fixing allegations involving their owner Gurunath Meiyappan’s arrest for illegal betting activities; however, these concerns proved short-lived as CSK was still able to continue competing successfully throughout the tournament.
CSK remains one of the most financially stable teams in the Indian Premier League with an estimated net worth of over Rs 400 crore. Recent years have seen CSK benefit from sponsorship deals with TVS Eurogrip and Etihad Airways that have invested over Rs 100 crore into the team, as well as welcoming Rishi Dhawan into its squad ahead of next edition’s tournament; all this will ensure they remain a force within competition.
MI: Rohit Sharma (C), Jasprit Bumrah
Rohit Sharma is an Indian cricketer currently representing Mumbai and leading them into the Indian Premier League as captain.
As both a right-handed batsman and occasional right-arm off break bowler, he is widely considered one of the greatest opening batsmen of all time, known for his timing, elegance, and six-hitting abilities. Furthermore, he currently captains all formats of India national cricket team.

Growing up in a single-room house with his family and grandparents; Sharma first took up cricket at 14 when joining local ground to play street cricket with friends.
In 2005, he made his List A debut for West Zone against Central Zone in the Deodhar Trophy and scored 31 off 47 balls to impress selectors and earn his maiden One Day International call-up against Ireland in June 2007. This performance won him international selection.
Rohit Sharma made his Ranji Trophy debut for Mumbai during the 2006-07 season after making his India A debut, scoring 205 against Gujrat and 57 in the finals to help Mumbai claim victory and win their inaugural Ranji trophy championship title.
MI have experienced mixed fortunes this season but still managed to secure two consecutive victories against Delhi Capitals and Sunrisers Hyderabad, thanks to Jasprit Bumrah who currently sits atop the wicket-taking charts and could potentially claim an Orange Cap award.
Both teams have enjoyed tremendous success over the years, with CSK winning five IPL titles under MS Dhoni and MI claiming three under Rohit Sharma.
Both teams will look to improve their head-to-head record when competing against one another this time around, playing at Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium which boasts a capacity of 33,108 and will stream live via Jio Hotstar or other services available within India.
MI: Kieron Pollard
Kieron Pollard is an aggressive all-rounder with impressive sixes, intelligent bowling and deadly fielding skills who has proven his dominance with over 500 T20 matches under his belt and one of the most dangerous players in cricket – making him an integral member of Mumbai-based franchise against CSK.
At Wankhede Stadium on Sunday, two five-time Indian Premier League (IPL) champions will battle it out in an exciting matchup.
Both have struggled this season but hope that the stakes clash can turn it around. MS Dhoni and co are currently languishing near the bottom with only four points from seven matches while Hardik Pandya’s MI sit seventh with six from as many.
After an inauspicious start to their campaign, MI have managed to put their campaign back on course by defeating Delhi Capitals and Sunrisers Hyderabad. Now they will hope to continue this upward trajectory when facing CSK who currently have a slight edge against them.
CSK will be missing key all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja for this match due to his ongoing recovery from a hamstring injury, making his absence an immense loss for them as they strive to defend their title.
Kieron Pollard made his international debut for Windies in 2006 in the shortest format of cricket and since has played for Somerset, Stanford Superstars and South Australia; as well as playing BBL cricket with Melbourne Renegades and Adelaide Strikers respectively.
He has played for Dhaka Gladiators, Karachi Kings, Toronto Nationals and Peshawar Zalmi in Pakistan Super League while representing Barbados Tridents in Caribbean Premier League.
Pollard has not only achieved great success in club cricket but he has also led Trinidad & Tobago national cricket in limited-overs formats as captain of their limited-overs side – earning 16 T20I caps to date and representing them at the ICC Champions Trophy competition since 2022. Furthermore, since 2014, Pollard has also served as captain for West Indies’ T20 national side under Darren Bravo.
MI: Ravindra Jadeja
Ravindra Jadeja is an Indian all-rounder who currently plays for Saurashtra in domestic cricket and Chennai Super Kings in the Indian Premier League. Jadeja, known for his slow left-arm orthodox bowling style and left-handed bat swing, is considered one of the most versatile players in world cricket; capable of performing all three formats for India.
After making his debut back in 2006 – as Virat Kohli’s deputy in winning 2008 World Cup Under-19 squad alongside Saurashtra – Jadeja has since been an integral member of all Indian teams across formats as an integral member.
Jadeja has managed to carve his own spot within India’s side despite being overshadowed by spinner R Ashwin. He has established himself as an effective limited overs performer and match winner during Test matches; additionally he provides decent hitting from lower order positions.
Jadeja was an integral member of India’s 2023 Champions Trophy-winning squad. He took 12 wickets during the tournament and scored an unbeaten 33 in the final, not to mention being part of both 2015 and 2019 ODI World Cup squads, though India were eliminated early from both. Additionally, Jadeja holds top all-rounder status in both ODI cricket as well as being an experienced match winner in Test cricket for India.
Jadeja has had an uneven IPL season with CSK. However, he played an instrumental role in their win against Lucknow Super Giants last week and will look to continue that strong form against MI on Friday night. Additionally, Jadeja leads CSK with 17 dismissals this season – making him their top wicket-taker as well.
Jadeja was retained by CSK before the 2025 mega-auction. He has been an invaluable player for CSK in limited overs cricket and an integral member of India in Test matches, having played multiple IPL finals with them and becoming immensely popular with their fan base. Married to Rivaba Solanki from Gujarat’s Bharatiya Janata Party who shares her name, Jadeja and their daughter share an affinity for golf – with whom they share custody if she passes away unexpectedly.
