AB DE Villiers

AB DE Villiers is one of the most exciting players in world cricket, possessing an array of strokes on both sides of the wicket that can wreak havoc against any bowling attack.

Furthermore, his versatility as a batsman allows him to adapt easily in any situation; and when required he has proven that he can be an outstanding fielder as well.

In 2004, AB de Villiers made his Test debut against England at Centurion and immediately proved his talent, scoring 109 not out in his maiden innings.

Due to this performance he quickly entered the national squad as both wicket-keeper and batsman.

He made his ODI debut the same year and quickly established himself as one of South Africa’s most formidable batsmen across both formats.

Over his career, he won multiple awards including being selected ICC ODI Player of the Year three times (2010, 2011 and 2015).

In 2014, he enjoyed an outstanding series against Australia and finished as the second highest run-scorer for South Africa, also winning the CSA Player of the Year Award that year.

Later that same year, he was selected as both an ODI and T20I Batsman of the Year Award recipient in 2016.

In 2017, he scored over 1,000 runs in both the Champions Trophy and ODI/T20 series against India, scoring 100 against Zimbabwe to kick-start 2017-18 season and later going on to win an ODI series against Sri Lanka with scores of 72, 101 and 85 not out in all three ODI matches he played against them.

De Villiers’s on-field brilliance has helped him garner an enormous cult following in India. He is particularly revered at M Chinnaswamy Stadium and on the T20 circuit with Royal Challengers Bangalore where he currently plys his trade.

T20 and ODI cricketers alike have seen him flourish, yet his most noticeable achievement comes in the Indian Premier League (IPL). Since its creation in 2008, he has become an indispensable member of his franchise, winning legions of followers across India.
