KL Rahul made history this week when he became the first Indian opener in 46 years to score over 500 runs in a Test series, providing India with some relief during an otherwise challenging series.

Day 2
Jamie Smith and Harry Brook ensured their hosts didn’t crumble at the start of day four with an inspired comeback by building up a 354/5 stand before Mohammed Siraj sent both back quickly into their respective huts.
KL Rahul was dropped on 20 by Dawson and 40 by Jos Buttler but continued his innings with positive intent, looking set for his maiden Test fifty. Unfortunately, however, during a follow-through delivery that caused an injury he smashed it and his finger became jammed causing pain that required medical assistance to settle before continuing batting for another hour or so before remaining not out at stumps at 71 not out.
England’s batting collapse continued into the post-tea session as their batsmen could no longer keep pace with India’s relentless pace attack. Akash Deep and Siraj came back into bat energised, inducing an innings collapse and eventually seeing off England for 407.
Umpires approach England captain Ollie Pope with an offer to bowl spinners; he declines, prompting them to call Stumps instead and the match ending in a draw.
Rahul spoke after the match and stated that this victory meant everything. He explained how they and their team had doubts about their ability to play Test cricket, but through hard work were able to disprove those naysayers. Rahul also lauded India’s bowlers, noting their talent and saying they deserved victory – adding this will go down as one of India’s greatest victories at Edgbaston, breaking England’s unbeaten streak at Edgbaston for good!
Day 3
India made an aggressive start and soon found themselves making ground. Yashasvi Jaiswal fell before stumps but KL Rahul and Karun Nair forge an effective partnership which continued well past tea time. Lower order batsmen also contributed with some runs but the new ball will present serious difficulties to them.
Ravindra Jadeja hit a fuller delivery from Jofra Archer and flicked it away for four runs off his leg side for four, moving onto 48 runs as an India batter.
Jofra Archer appears to be struggling in this match as Pant makes no attempt to be off balance by switching up his length, yet still hits an unstoppable six through the gully area. Jofra Archer seems overwhelmed and seems helpless now.
India pacers Akash Deep and Mohammed Siraj kept England batsmen on edge during the morning session, before Joe Root and Ben Stokes attempted to form an impressive partnership before Washington Sundar ruined it all with a five-wicket haul.
Siraj delivers an outstanding delivery. His ball hits Crawley squarely on the deck and beats his attempted drive attempt. Crawley walks off in considerable discomfort – possibly cramped legs – yet that could become an issue for England in future encounters.
Rishabh Pant attempted to get across in time for the run-out but was out caught at short leg by Stokes – an embarrassing blow for the hosts! Day 4
KL Rahul and Shubman Gill’s half-centuries have kept India competitive in the tournament; but it now appears as though one or more opportunities has been lost, meaning they must bat exceptionally for several more overs if they wish to avoid another collapse.
At Manchester on a gloriously sunny afternoon, England are enjoying themselves despite losing Yashasvi Jaiswal and Sai Sudharsan in the first over. But wicketkeeper Jos Buttler and spinner Washington Sundar have held on well in a powerful seventh-wicket partnership of 174 runs for seventh wicket stand of wicket.
Liam Dawson makes a strong appeal against Shubman Gill, but the umpire remains unmoved by it. Although UltraEdge and Ball Tracking indicated there was clear bat traces behind it on pitch-and-left-bat, no clear evidence can overturn his not out decision on field.
Bumrah to Joe Root: Seamed back in, on middle, pinned, Root attempts to work the ball around the corner but fails completely, missing entirely as the ball goes past his inside edge, hitting square leg pad and rolling into square leg where an umpire then sends it upstairs for review, which does not result in overturn.

KL Rahul fell early but Ravindra Jadeja and Washington Sundar were resilient in defending. Jadeja in particular played an excellently determined innings, handling pace and spin from both ends with ease.
