Delhi Capitals vs Mumbai Indians
Delhi have consistently been one of the most competitive teams in the league. Although early years saw struggles, in 2008 and 2010 they reached the semi-finals thanks to Sehwag, Mahela Jayawardene, Kevin Pietersen and Morne Morkel among other standout players.
By 2021 they had recovered fully as they won ten of 14 matches; fast bowler Avesh Khan especially excelled with 24 wickets taken off his wickets alone!
In 2024 they took another step forward, defeating both KKR and CSK before reaching the final. Unfortunately they were eventually defeated by RCB; nonetheless it had been an excellent season with Dhawan and Shaw making many runs; captain Iyer being an outstanding performer; while Rabada and legspinner Amit Mishra taking over 50 wickets between them.
After this success, things began to go south for Durham. Over the next several seasons they finished no higher than fifth place thanks to high-profile signings AB de Villiers, Andre Russell and Trent Boult as well as Shreyas Iyer as young stars.
In 2026, Delhi started off strong, winning four of their first six matches and looking like they might make the playoffs again since 2013.
Unfortunately, however, they lost five out of eight thereafter and fell just short due to poor net run rate – KXIP and CSK ended up sneaking past them due to rain-affected matches; Dhawan amassed over 500 runs, Iyer and Shaw contributed strongly and Rabada along with Anrich Nortje and Avesh Khan were particularly effective pace-attacks.
While these results were disappointing, encouraging signs can be seen; new buy Dhawan scored over 500 runs while new buy Iyer contributed significantly whereas Rabada performed exceptionally well as did pace-attackers Anrich Nortje and Avesh Khan.
