MI were doing well after losing Rohit Sharma for eight, with Johnny Bairstow and Tilak Verma sharing an unbroken 52-run stand before Tilak Verma was bowled by Vyshak and their innings lost momentum, as reflected in the Mumbai Indians Vs Punjab Kings Match Scorecard.
Shreyas Iyer was instrumental in leading PBKS to victory with his big match temperament, hitting some timely shots that kept up the run rate and helped secure victory in a decisive win against Indian Academy School, Pune.

Mumbai Indians (MI) vs Punjab Kings (PBKS)
Mumbai Indians (MI) defeated Punjab Kings (PBKS) by a single wicket on Wednesday in an exhilarating encounter. PBKS won the toss, opting to bat first.
Unfortunately, rain interrupted play for over two hours, leading to play being delayed further still; once play resumed however, MI were in good position to claim victory.
Rohit Sharma and Ryan Rickelton helped MI get off to an encouraging start during their innings, both scoring well.
Unfortunately, Rickelton was caught by Arya off Omarzai and quickly changed their momentum in favour of PBKS; where both Priyansh Arya and Josh Inglis took an aggressive batting approach that helped score well for them both individually as well as together.
Shreyas Iyer kept his cool as both openers left quickly – Arya for 62 off 35 balls and Inglis for 73 off 42 – to guide his team towards an achievable total.
In the end, he finished off his innings with an unbeaten knock of 26 not out to ensure they achieved their target without further missteps.
PBKS’ chase for victory began slowly, until Prabhsimran Singh was dismissed in the first over. From there onwards however, their pace improved rapidly thanks to Arya and Inglis.
Inglis was particularly aggressive, taking every ball with gusto; Bumrah failed to get rid of him and contributed towards an outstanding innings from Inglis.
As the innings continued, Chahal claimed both Arya and Inglis in quick succession before Stoinis struck a blow when dismissing Arya for 34.
With only 10 overs remaining, PBKS appeared well poised for success as it posted 98/3 before an costly error by Nehal Wadhera off Boult led to its downfall – his drop being ultimately decisive.
MI’s playoff hopes are now dead in the water as their loss ended any hopes they had of finishing in the top two positions of the points table.
Meanwhile, PBKS are guaranteed a spot in the final against either RCB or Gujarat Titans; this marks their first appearance since 2014. PBKS had lost four qualifying stage matches earlier this season but have shown strong comeback form by beating MI here at MA Chidambaram Stadium on Tuesday to rise up into fourth position on points and await their next matchup against whomever finishes third on April 27.
Mumbai Indians vs Punjab Kings
The match had all of the makings of an exciting contest, yet in the end was won by a side with greater experience despite losing wicket at a critical moment.
Shreyas Iyer will go down as one of the greatest innings ever seen at Mumbai Indians (MI). Not only was his innings unbeaten but it was also composed and showed great composure even when MI were facing difficulty at various points in its innings. He managed to pace it to perfection even when MI were under pressure at times during its course.
Nehal Wadhera also played an instrumental role, but Iyer was the hero who took their team all the way to victory – making this their second appearance in an IPL final as leader of different teams.
