On Saturday at Harare Sports Club, Zimbabwe shocked India by 13 runs. While India’s bowlers led by Shubman Gill and Washington Sundar succeeded in restricting Zimbabwe to 115/9, their batsmen struggled to make enough runs.
Brendan Taylor’s unbeaten 60 off 45 balls was instrumental in Zimbabwe winning their first One-Day International in over 18 months. The left-handed opener displayed all of the poise of an experienced batsman while producing some powerful hitting down the middle of the pitch to propel Zimbabwe to victory.
Zimbabwe needed this victory as they had lost every match played over the previous months. Now back on winning ways, Zimbabwe also defeated Bangladesh in their inaugural Twenty20 World Championship matchup held in Cape Town.

Chasing an easy total of 115, their bowlers led by Sikandar Raza applied pressure throughout India’s innings and kept their batsmen guessing, keeping wickets falling regularly as India struggled for partnership anchorage to support their innings. Zimbabwe also showed excellent fielding and bowling abilities that proved decisive in winning this match.
After winning the toss and electing to bat first, Zimbabwe set their innings off on an aggressive note with Vusi Sibanda and Hamilton Masakadza scoring 58 and 55 runs respectively for Zimbabwe’s visitors. But regular wickets fell regularly threatening Zimbabwe to make an insufficient score before captain Brendan Taylor produced an outstanding 75 off only 71 balls; one of Zimbabwe’s few post-isolation international class players.
