One-day international cricket is played between two teams of eleven players each, using standard International Cricket Council rules.

Typically the winning team is determined by who scored more runs during an innings than its opponent.

India and South Africa will play three one-day internationals (ODIs), beginning with a match at The Wanderers Stadium in Johannesburg on December 17 and concluding at Gqebera Stadium in Cape Town and Paarl Stadium in Pretoria subsequently.

Test

India, commonly referred to as “The Men in Blue,” are an international men’s Test cricket team representing their country internationally. Administered by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and accredited as Full Members by the International Cricket Council with Test, One Day International (ODI), and Twenty20 International (T20I) status respectively.

Indian fans celebrate any series victory involving white-ball cricket with great joy; particularly any series victory that involves victory against Pakistan or Australia.

The 2025 South Africa tour perfectly captured this intense rivalry, as Proteas stunned India with victories at Kolkata and Guwahati to claim home series wins for themselves in 25 years; furthermore it marked two defeats this year alone, placing their hopes of making the World Test Championship final into serious doubt.

It also resulted in several big names suffering reputational blows while long red-ball careers were put under strain as certain players found their future uncertain due to heavy loss incurred at home by Indian opposition players.

South Africa’s success in the first Test was due primarily to their bowlers. Aiden Markram and spinners Simon Harmer, Keshav Maharaj, and Senuran Muthusamy produced an unbreakable web around India’s batting unit that resulted in them scoring only 184 all out in their second innings – prompting Markram’s batsmanship to shine brightly, scoring an outstanding 71 against 489 while then contributing 72 more runs during India’s reply against him in his second innings!

Markram then performed his brilliant batting prowess by scoring an unbelievable 71 against India first innings response before then adding another 72 his impressive strokes later during India’s reply!

Since the series is tied 1-1, the third and final Test will take place in Dharamsala. With Lungi Ngidi and Lonwabo Tshilambo replacing injured players Burger and de Zorzi respectively for South Africa.

Rohit Sharma made an inspired choice in selecting both Jadeja and Samson for his ODI squad, with Samson likely continuing his impressive form with Rajasthan Royals this season, scoring over 400 runs in three matches so far.

Additionally, this move will enable Rohit to become only the fourth player ever to score four centuries in an ODI career, joining Sri Lankan great Sangakkara and Australian legend Ricky Ponting in reaching that feat.

Indian cricket fans are in shock following South Africa’s 0-2 Test series defeat. India were favorite going into these Tests but their poor performance has cast serious doubt over their future, leaving many players and coach Gautam Gambhir uncertain of their position and status ahead of the ICC World Cup later this year.

India’s white-ball improvement may have reduced rivalry tension, yet South Africa still presents a formidable opponent. Their 2024 T20 World Cup Final victory and recent comeback in an ODI series against India demonstrate this fact.

India appears poised to win its series against South Africa after three wins and one loss across four T20Is, starting with Thursday’s match at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.

India hopes that their fourth T20I victory can seal it, so some key players like Hardik Pandya, Jasprit Bumrah, Kuldeep Yadav may rest or even leave. Shubamn Gill and Sanju Samson may receive more playing time.

After an impressive opening by Quinton de Kock, South Africa struggled to keep pace with their required run rate against India’s bowlers.

Varun Chakravarthy struck early with two double-wicket overs and Hardik Pandya struck again by bowling an excellent slower bouncer that removed set batters before Washington Sundar claimed Dewald Brevis who was caught at long-on by Shivam Dube to bring an end to South Africa’s determined chase.
