The first Ranji match to be played in Tinsukia was in December 1992, when Assam took on Bihar. The match featured a young Mahendra Singh Dhoni sporting his signature long hair, as well as emerging youngsters like Debasish Mohanty finding their feet in the game.

Since then, the ground in Tinsukia has hosted countless first-class matches. It also hosted an international T20 match between India and Australia in 2017.

The stadium is now known as the Barsapara Cricket Stadium, after the late BJP leader Bhupen Hazarika. It has a capacity of 10,000. The venue will host two Ranji Trophy matches this season, including an Elite Group C match between Assam and Services on October 25 to 28.
