The second Test at Auckland was an exciting and closely fought encounter, with England narrowly beating New Zealand by four runs. It will go down in history as one of the closest Tests ever played; both sides rallied after starting off poorly; England led by Robinson and Atkinson staged an incredible comeback but New Zealand held their nerve to claim an iconic win – here’s what happened:
The Black Caps were off to an early lead with two quick wickets in their opening innings, but by then the damage had already been done. Glenn Phillips and Devon Conway offered some resistance but ultimately could not prevent England from coasting to an emphatic win with their bowling attack led by Atkinson, Tongue and Robinson who delivered impressive performances against an unforgiving pitch.
England have the chance of winning their first series against New Zealand since 2022 in this week’s game at Trent Bridge, as both sides look forward to adding yet another trophy to their cabinet this summer in an ODI series against India that begins shortly.
