India vs Namibia
Namibia men’s national cricket team represents their country internationally in international cricket competition. Administered by Cricket Namibia – Namibia’s sport’s governing body – as an Associate Member of the International Cricket Council (ICC), and taking part in tournaments and events like ICC World Twenty20 Qualifier Quals.
India and Namibia will face each other in an important matchup that could determine who goes on to the semi finals of this tournament. India have struggled against Associate nations so far in this tournament, losing all four matches they’ve faced; on the other hand, Namibia have won both their games so far and hope to improve on their current standing.
Both teams have endured poor starts to their campaigns, with India’s defeat against USA being particularly disappointing. A win against Namibia would give India a significant edge towards reaching the semi-finals.
Namibia will rely heavily on their quick bowling to dominate this match; left-arm fast bowler Rudolph van der Merwe and right-arm offspinner JJ Smit are capable of dislodging wickets from any top order, while India’s superior batsmanship should provide enough of an answer against this threat.
India began their innings strong by scoring 75 runs in six overs to establish themselves quickly in the powerplay. Their batsmen then continued scoring steadily until Bumrah and Hardik’s excellent death-bowling managed to remove Ruben Trumpelmann and Bernard Scholtz for just seven runs each in quick succession, ending any hope for any batting collapse during overs 14-18.
Kishan kept up the pressure with an impressive 20-ball half century, and at halfway it appeared Namibia would need around 300 to win. But, despite Erasmus’ best efforts — bowling offspin with multiple release points from well behind the bowling crease — India quickly reached 104 for 2 in just 7.1 overs.

Group A
Cricket Namibia, the sport’s governing body in Namibia, oversees its national cricket team. Namibia is an associate member of the International Cricket Council and made their ODI debut in 2001; currently ranking number thirty-nine worldwide for one-day internationals.
They have also competed at both division two and three tournaments of World Cricket League – finishing runners-up at 2007-08 WCL Division Two tournament to gain full ODI status – before going on to compete at 2009 ICC T20 World Cup Qualifier tournament held in Uganda where they defeated Denmark, United Arab Emirates, Oman before losing against South Africa in semi finals.
Namibia will take great pride in playing India at their inaugural 2022 ICC T20 World Cup match at Wanderers Stadium in Johannesburg. Both teams will vie for top spot in their respective groups; the winner of which will advance to quarter-finals while any losers will return home; this anticipated crowd-puller should draw approximately 30,000 spectators for what promises to be a high-scoring game!
Match Schedule
India will look to rebound from their heavy loss against Netherlands by defeating Namibia. Both teams possess many strong assets that should make for an exciting contest.
Jasprit Bumrah will look to put behind him his poor start in this tournament, with Namibia boasting strong all-rounders led by David Wiese proving an equally potent force on a cricket pitch. Both teams will meet for the first time ever on an cricket field on this matchup.
Both sides are full of quality players and the winner will move one step closer to reaching the semi-finals of this competition. Namibia haven’t traditionally challenged some of the world’s more established sides but will look to make their presence felt here.
Namibia captain Gerhard Erasmus won the toss and decided to bowl first, as the pitch appeared dry with some dew present. He suggested that the wicket might slow down over time – providing India’s batsmen an edge in terms of bat speed.
India made an excellent start to their innings, with Kishan and Samson both hitting fours in the opening powerplay over. Together they added 71 runs in six overs before Kishan was bowled by Ben Shikongo for 61 off 24 balls.
Namibia may have suffered an unfortunate defeat, but their performances thus far in this tournament suggest they should make a comeback. They finished as runners-up at both qualifying tournaments – for 2019 ICC T20 World Cup Africa Qualifier and 2021 ODI World Cup Qualifier respectively.
India have been given a boost by the return of pace bowler Jasprit Bumrah after missing their opening match against USA due to fever. Three players also battled illness or injury leading up to this game – Abhishek Sharma being discharged from hospital on Wednesday due to suffering a stomach bug; it is expected he should be ready for Thursday’s match against Namibia.
Prediction
Forecasters predict the game will take place on a pitch with excellent pace and bounce. Batting first should target 180+ runs to feel comfortable on this surface under lights. Abhishek Sharma should look to strike early, using his powerplay overs as an opportunity to put bowlers under early pressure by getting his first boundaries early and establish momentum for his side.
Namibia will meet one of the co-hosts of this tournament – who were defeated by Gerhard Erasmus’s men against Netherlands earlier in World Cup campaign, failing to produce an adequate total. They hope that changing that trend and giving themselves a chance in group stage.
Namibia will benefit greatly from the return of captain Bernard Scholtz who missed their opening match against Netherlands due to an injury. Bernard has an essential role to play in helping their team progress and will look to build on his excellent bowling performance against them. Jan Nicol Loftie-Eaton played an essential part in Namibia’s opening 156/8 innings; they will need to build upon this scoreline.
India’s Jasprit Bumrah will return from fever-induced absence to make his mark against Namibia in four-over spell. His impeccable line and length has been key to India’s success over time; Bumrah will lead his side’s pace attack.
Suryakumar Yadav will come into this match full of confidence after his brilliant 84-ball knock in their previous encounter against USA. As one of the leading T20 run scorers and with an outstanding recent form, Suryakumar Yadav’s form has been incredible and will look to continue it at Arun Jaitley Stadium on Thursday.
Varun Chakaravarthy may add variety and left-arm spin threat while Ishan Kishan may yet recover fully from an injury sustained against USA. If he fails to play, Washington Sundar will step in as his replacement in the India National Cricket Team Vs Namibia National Cricket Team Match Scorecard.
