Nahid Rana’s five-wicket haul on Day 4 demolished the visitors’ lower order, with only Mohammad Rizwan and Shan Masood offering any resistance – both falling to Taijul Islam shortly thereafter.

Bangladesh enjoyed a convincing win on a tricky pitch thanks to a solid bowling performance from their home team and an outstanding innings from Parvez Hossain Emon against an underpowered Pakistan side. Young Nahid Rana excelled with the ball, taking five for 40 and clearing out Saud Shakeel and Mohammad Rizwan who had both been hanging around until later on. These key wickets set up Bangladesh for success as they saw off Pakistan.
Litton Das and Tanzid Hasan batted steadily in the middle overs before being run out, prompting Emon to accelerate at will and hit seven fours to end the match decisively. It never seemed in doubt!
Salman Agha commends both teams on a tremendous performance in Sylhet. He stresses the significance of this match as it kicks off a three-match series there and praises Hasan Ali, saying he looks just like in 2017; and adds it is always enjoyable playing against him.
ICC World Cup 2026
India and Pakistan’s tenuous relations have permeated onto the cricket pitch recently, following a four-day military standoff in May which culminated with India refusing to send its players to Pakistan for Champions Trophy matches, followed by Bangladesh Cricket Board asking that matches between India and them be moved to Sri Lanka, with several ICC full member nations agreeing.
Following this series of back and forths, with the ICC accusing the BCB of hypocrisy for supporting their rival’s request for a neutral venue, while maintaining that this issue goes deeper than just cricket – rather it relates to political tensions between both countries and should therefore not be reduced solely to this sport.
Bangladesh were left reeling at 35-3 after losing both openers within six overs of starting their innings. Shorna’s late fireworks helped ensure their pursuit of 234, as she hit five boundaries and eight sixes; taking more than half of their last-four over total in this way.
However, Pakistan’s middle order quickly unraveled as their batting struggled against Bangladesh’s spinners. Mohammad Shahadat was the first victim, edged to mid-off and then Sana Mir top-edged an attempt at big hitting towards long on.
Nahid Rana ran through Pakistan’s lower order quickly, picking off Shakeel and Rizwan before finishing with 5 for 40 and giving Bangladesh victory by 104 runs. In the context of the Bangladesh National Cricket Team Vs Pakistan National Cricket Team Match Scorecard, this performance highlights how decisive bowling spells can shape the outcome of a closely contested international cricket match.
Bangladesh leapfrogged South Africa into second place in their pool with this win; South Africa still have one game left to play. This also gave Bangladesh their first victory against a team below them, leaving Pakistan languishing at the bottom with one victory from three matches. Next up, they travel to New Zealand, which should provide plenty of tests of their mettle!
